Getting Spoiled

It was raining when we woke up, but that didn't deter us.  We went to the "pancake rocks" for a pre-breakfast walk and were fortunate that it was grey but dry.  The pancake rocks are just what you think.....stacks of rocks in thin horizontal layers.  The layers were no more than a few inches thick, but the stacks were many, many rocks high.  A fascinating geological phenomenon.

We're now in Nelson which is on the north coast of the South Island.  We were most pleased when we checked into our hotel and were informed that we had been given a free upgrade.....to a 2-bedroom cottage.  It's bigger than my first apartment in Portland.  After walking in and exploring we both thought of our ryokan in Miyajima, Japan.  This place has 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a living room, kitchen, dining room, and back yard.  It also has, in the kitchen, a washer/dryer.  Even though we did laundry yesterday we couldn't resist....though we'd already used our own laundry soap before noticing that there was some in the cupboard.

Spent the afternoon caching.  We found the goblindust-like cacher in town and found a few caches that s/he placed.  Then had a nice seafood dinner and have "retired to our quarters for the evening."  Tomorrow we will go sea kayaking in Abel Tasman National Park.
