[read the post "Estonian Hospitality" first....it didn't seem right to mix the two things]
After we left Kaido and Diana, we walked back to the hotel, did some trip chores, and took another walk in Old Town. When we returned, we received this e-mail message from them:
"Btw. We were very lucky today. It happens very rarely that somebody shoots gun or take hostages in Estonia. We do not actually such kind incidents at all. But today it happened, just there inside defence ministry. We leaved parking place some 15:08 and somebody started shooting inside building few minutes after it.
With my brother all is OK."
(Kaido's brother works at the Defence Ministry, which is why we had parked there earlier.) The gun/hostage incident started about 3:30pm. As I write this, it seems that the gunman is dead and everyone else safe. It has been on and off of Google's news headlines, but if you go to google news and search for Estonia you should see the most current info.
Is 2011 a strange year, or what?
