Interlude

Although we’re doing a 14-day cruise, it’s really two 7-day cruises back to back which means we are effectively doing a figure-eight (or infinity sign) out of Fort Lauderdale. Week 1 was to the east, week 2 will be to the west. Unfortunately, the geography is such that we had a sea day Friday, returned to the port Saturday, and had another sea day Sunday.

Both sea days have been uneventful. The port day was disappointing as the excursion we took was, well, I was taught that if one can’t say something nice one shouldn’t say anything at all.

It might have been better if Florida wasn’t experiencing what the locals called an “Arctic blast” which meant they wore parkas due to the extreme cold — when we woke up it was 48F/9C (home was experiencing a heat wave of 7C) and the high for the day may or may not have reached 60F/16C. My accommodation to the weather was wearing long pants instead of shorts, the first evening other than formal night that I actually wore long pants to dinner.

Looking forward to Cozumel tomorrow, though I think our excursion is actually on the mainland. Then Honduras, Belize and another stop in Mexico before our last sea day Friday and then home on Saturday.
