Meandering in Montenegro

Our visit in Kotor (Ko-TOR) Montenegro was short but pleasant. A fine, though not particularly memorable, walking tour through Old Town. Even after the 2nd one, they seemed to look alike -- a plaza with a bell tower, old buildings in various states of original and reconstructed, walls to walk along, a history that mentions Romans, Byzantines, Yugoslavia, various other conquerors, recent independence. This particular Old Town  was fairly achromatic (everything off-white-ish) and wasn't especially memorable, though there was an 850-year old church and we got to see an Orthodox Friar wearing a long robe and using a cell phone which wasn't exactly what we expected.

Yesterday, at the suggestion of our new friend A whose wife L is with the group but not a geocacher, we considered whether to venture to Bosnia. The ship's guide informed us it' s not an open border and strongly discouraged it, so we resisted the urge (other friends did make the trip, safely). We did however hire 2 taxis for 8 of us -- Jana and I shared one taxi with A and L -- to climb the "25 switchbacks" road for an impressive view of the town and Adriatic Sea. It was indeed spectacular.

After returning to town we walked along the front wall of the city. We descended where we heard what turned out to be a street violinist playing, and he was next to an artist who makes his own bamboo pictures of local sights -- come visit my house to see my sample.

Recognizing that we had 3 more towns to visit, we returned a bit early to the ship (having found 3 caches) to relax. I finally swam in a cruise ship pool and Jana appreciated the hot tub.
