Queenstown and Chief Koen

We arrived uneventfully in Queenstown on Friday.  We spent an incredible weekend with friends from all over…3 continents were represented.  In the “it’s a small world” department, we learned that two of our Seattle friends were not just at the same hotel we were at in Christchurch, they were in the adjacent room.  Alas, that happened on Tuesday and we learned about it on Friday so it wasn’t particularly helpful information.

As for the weekend, we ate incredibly well.  We consumed a variety of beverages though no purple.  We had a wonderful, though very wet, hike on a portion of one of New Zealand’s famous hiking trails, the Routeburn Track.  Indeed, we found a few caches, and were caught once in a photo of many legs under a large turbine that’s now functioning more as a sculpture and cache holder.

We had the privilege of being present for the crowning of “Chief Koen” who is a most effective, though reluctant, leader.  On a scale of 1 to 10 it was at least a 12.  But since “what happens in Queenstown stays in Queenstown” I probably can’t share much more publicly.  I can say that we look forward to seeing many of these friends again, and keep reminding them that Hotel Kiwi is nearly always available.
